Robotics Process Automation: Future of Work

What exactly is Robotics Process Automation? Ever imagined how a process can be made quicker? Robotics process automation (RPA) is the application of technology that allows the configuring of a computer software or a “robot” to capture and interpret existing applications for processing a transaction, manipulating data, triggering responses and communicating with other digital systems. Simply put a software/robot can imitate processes only but leave the decision making to humans.

Robotics process automation is an emerging form of business process automation technology based on the notion of software robots or artificial intelligence (AI) workers.

Robotics Process Automation seeks to mimic processes. It helps businesses become more customer-centered and allow employees to free up more time to deliver more value to customers and end users.

RPA implementations have been known to deliver immediate Return On Investment, is non-intrusive to underlying technologies. Can connect seamlessly with any technologies including legacy system, It can be applied on an enterprise scale, can be installed incrementally.

As a Business Analyst/Consultant with some years of experience with transformation project, I have been involved in preparing and implementing business transformation projects. A business analyst is involved in preparing the business for RPA by creating a well-defined process definition document, assessing the business for opportunities for automation, collating use cases for automation, convincing stakeholders and getting a buy-in. Furthermore, I have been involved in process prioritization,  solution design, build, test, stabilizing the system and continuous improvement

As an RPA BA, there is the  need to

  • ➢  Create smart documents with clear and concise information in more nimble ways such as user stories and epics
  • ➢  Be Aware of the new technology, tools, and solutions best fitted for process/project
  • ➢  Gain knowledge of multiple domains as automation is not specific to any vertical or horizontal
  • ➢  Define the new process to be followed post automation of the existing process

RPA has been tagged the future of work and automation has been said to be the direction of work in the future. A lot of use cases for automation spans across Insurance, Healthcare, Banking, and other businesses.

In an RPA initiative, the last phase of the transformation is change management, which is a process that guides Business Analysts in preparing, supporting, and adopting process changes.

Robotics Process Automation is an exciting work, but the foundation still lies in engaging people and process owners to be involved and understand the impact and benefits of the automation.

In wrapping this up, I can provide Robotics Process Automation initiatives and help you deliver a successful change to your business processes.
